Glazing Season

The kiln has been firing almost continuously for the past three weeks. This is what glazing season looks like: test tiles stacked in every available space, notes written in pencil on scraps of paper, the persistent smell of iron oxide and wood ash.

I am working on a new ash glaze — using ash from the shop's wood stove, combined with local feldspar and a small percentage of iron red. The results so far have been unpredictable in the most interesting ways.
